Project Drive-In is a campaign sponsored by Honda that aims to help these theaters to purchase the projectors they need to stay open and keep this American tradition alive. In addition to Honda donating 5 projectors to drive-ins across the country, they started up an Indiegogo campaign to get additional funding to these theaters and that’s where you come in. Hit the jump to check out more information and find out how you can help keep the drive-ins from going dark.
Here’s the campaign video, check it out and be sure to click here to donate and spread the word.
THE GOAL: Rally America to save as many drive-ins as possible.
Cars and Drive-ins go hand in hand. So who better to help save the drive-in than a car company? What better company than American Honda? Since 1933, these iconic outdoor screens have been built around car culture. Honda understands that the classic drive-in movie theater is an important part to our American heritage.
Honda is donating five digital projectors to save five drive-ins. America’s votes at http://www.projectdrivein.com decide which of the 110 participating drive-ins will receive the projectors. We’re taking the first step. But we can’t do it alone.
Saving every drive-in will cost millions. So we’re raising community awareness and contributions at Honda pop-up drive-ins across the country. And by creating this “Save the Drive-in” Fund, we hope to make it easier for people to get involved, so this historic part of American cinema can live on.
