Screen Media Films have announced they picked up the U.S. rights for Michel Gondry‘s latest film, Microbe & Gasoline, which stars Ange Dargent, Theophile Baquet, and Audrey Tautou. The film revolves around two friends who set out on a road trip across France in a vehicle they built themselves.

Microbe & Gasoline will be released in theaters in New York and Los Angeles July 1st before expanding throughout the rest of the month and into August. From what the below press release states, I would imagine a VOD release will also occur during this time.

New York, April 26, 2016 – Screen Media Films has acquired the U.S. rights for Michel Gondry film “Microbe & Gasoline” from STUDIOCANAL.  The film, which is about two young friends who embark on a road trip across France in a vehicle they built themselves, stars Ange Dargent, Theophile Baquet and Audrey Tautou.  The film previously premiered at the 2015 New York Film Festival and Screen Media will release the film in theaters on July 1st in New York at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema and in Los Angeles at the Nuart Theatre before expanding in a traditional platform release in July and August.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Screen Media on MICROBE & GASOLINE and we look forward to giving U.S. audiences the opportunity to rediscover the charm of Gondry’s universe” says Aska Yamaguchi, SVP of International Sales of STUDIOCANAL, who negotiated the deal with Seth Needle at Screen Media on behalf of the filmmakers.

“There are very few filmmakers on our directors bucket list here at Screen Media, and it is truly an honor to release a Michel Gondry film,” said Seth Needle, SVP Worldwide Acquisitions, at Screen Media Films. “And we really think audiences will take to his endearing coming of age story.”

“Microbe & Gasoline” is written and directed by Michel Gondry, produced by Georges Bermann, with music by Jean-Claude Vannier, cinematography by Laurent Brunet, editing by Elise Fievet, and costume design by Florence Fontaine.  The film stars Ange Dargent, Theophile Baquet and Audrey Tautou.
