Adam Berg to Direct 'Videodrome' Remake 1

Upon hearing about the proposed remake of the classic 1983 David Cronenberg film, Videodrome, I initially scoffed at the notion. Although the film may look dated, it’s still one of those titles that is considered a classic because of who made it, who was in it, and the specific time that it was made.  It seems like a nearly impossible task to capture the same visual style and tone of the film, if any of the previously mentioned things are changed. In addition, it’s not a very commercially appealing film, which may result in studios playing it safe with the content and plot of the remake. Then Universal announced the attachment of famed commercial director Adam Berg to the film.  After viewing Berg’s work, it seems like this might turn out to be an interesting concept after-all. While this would be his first feature, it looks like the unique visual style of Videodrome may suit him.

Unfortunately, it’s also been announced that Ehren Kruger will be working on the script. This is the same guy that wrote Transformers 1-4, Brothers Grim, and Reindeer Games.

There’s no casting as of yet, so depending on who they can get to fill the James Woods role from the original, there could be hope for this yet.  Let us know what you think about this news in the comments below.
