In an interesting piece of news today, it was announced that It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney has been brought on to direct the upcoming Minecraft adaptation for Warner Bros.

If you aren’t familiar with a ridiculously popular video game, it’s a sandbox game allowing you to create nearly anything you can possibly imagine, making it sort of like living in a giant Lego world with unlimited building blocks. It’s certainly fun and a great learning tool for children to learn about things like architecture and physics, but the game itself has no particular story or plot other than the fact that monsters appear at night.

This lack of narrative could be a nice blank canvas for McElhenney to work with, but I’m still not sure how this project is going to fit together.
