One film that I’ve been dying to see since first hearing about it well over a year ago, and having since read the book, is Don Coscarelli‘s John Dies At the End. The book, written by David Wong, is such an insane mind trip, that although it may be impossible to translate it into a cohesive piece of cinema, the choice of Coscarelli to make the attempt seems like an obvious pick.  He previous work includes Bubba Ho-Tep and Phantasm, two horror flicks I absolutely love.

After playing the festival circuit for what seems like an eternity, Magnet finally announced that it will be releasing the film on VOD December 27, with a limited theatrical run set for February 3rd.

David Wong’s sequel to the original novel was just released, titled This Book is Full of Spiders, and can be picked up through Amazon, or you can get the free audio book through audible by clicking here.

In ‘John Dies at the End’, it’s all about the Soy Sauce, a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. Users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John (Rob Mayes) and David (Chase Williamson), a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No.No, they can’t.
