Yedidya Gorsetman’s sci-fi thriller tells of an investor in a VR startup discovers that the reality the company provides isn’t virtual.
Hotshot venture capitalist Joel has a multimillion-dollar deal go up in smoke, and he and his actress wife Jessica are forced to move in with her parents and start from scratch. At the lowest and most desperate moment in his life, Joel meets old friend Nicolaus and his business partner Lester, who are seeking investors in a new technology known as XVR—Xtreme Virtual Reality—from their company Empathy, Inc., which is said to offer the most realistic and moving experiences for users by placing them in the lives of the less fortunate. Joel gets the startup its funds but soon discovers that the tech’s creators have far more sinister uses in store for their creation and that the reality it provides its customers isn’t virtual.

“Empathy, Inc.” is a refreshing indie, sci-fi gem. I love the futuristic technological aspect of the conflict that makes it seem so realistic and enthralling. Empathy, Inc. had me in awe. I definitely recommend it!
Along with the black and white coloring of Empathy, Inc., the lighting also contributed to the dark and dire tone of the film. Many times Yedidya Gorsetman chose not to use fill lights on actors’ faces, creating a falloff of light into shadows that created an ominous feel. Overall, I thought it was outstanding.
I was impressed by the reviews about Empathy Inc. in variety
and how Director Yedidya Gorsetman uses identity exchange in the form of Xtreme
Virtual Reality Technology. It’s a sci fi thriller/horror film. Can’t wait
until the 24 of September VOD release!
Empathy Inc has a storyline that was truly captivating on an emotional level and the leading actor Joel, played by Zack Robidas, impressively and realistically portrayed the internal emotional conflict and struggle throughout the film. I strongly encourage you to watch it on VOD!
