Fede Alvarez to Direct GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO Sequel

I was pretty bummed when it seemed that Sony was abandoning the idea of David Fincher returning to direct the next film in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series, but now it seems the American version of Stieg Larsson’s hit series is back on track once again with none other than Fede Alvarez set to helm The Girl in the Spider’s Web. It’s interesting that Sony has decided to forego adapting the second and third novels and go right for the forth, but I think choosing Alvarez is definitely a step in the right direction.

In addition to directing Spider’s Web, Alvarez also told Coming Soon that after finishing that film he plans on making a sequel to Don’t Breathe, which in one sense I’m like “Hell yeah!” and in another I’m like, “Huh?” Although it was one of my favorite horror films to release this year I’m just not sure it’s a story that would benefit from a sequel, given what a fantastic gut-punch it ended with.

As of now, it’s not known if Rooney Mara or Daniel Craig will be returning for Spider’s Web, but Mara said in the past she would like to return to the character and I would sincerely hope she’ll be reprising her role.
