One of my fondest literary memories from my youth (other than Goosebumps) was Choose Your Own Adventure books. Being able to craft your own non-linear story and adding a neat little interactive element to your reading was a very fun idea to the ten year old me.

Now it seems Fox is aiming to revive the series by snagging the rights to the 200+ volume series and promising a cross-platform release.  It’s still uncertain how they will do this with a movie, however we’ve seen similar things done in the past in the home video market a la “To go down this path skip to chapter 4 on the DVD.”

The choosing mechanic has also been attempting in a theater environment before, with electronic voting devices in patron’s seats that would allow them to pick what happens next.  This was created by the king of the gimmicks, William Castle.

THR reports that they plan “a cross-platform four-quadrant action adventure franchise.” This will most likely mean a movie/book/video game type thing, which may be interesting.

Though I don’t know what they’ll be doing to bring back Choose Your Own Adventure, here’s hoping that they bring some of the kitschy nostalgia with it.
