Gerard Butler Does His John McClane Impression in the ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ Trailer

This year we’ll have not one but two White House themed thrillers, the first being Olympus Has Fallen from Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), and the second being White House Down from Roland Emmerich (Independence Day). Both films sound terribly generic and now we have a trailer for one of them to prove it.

Olympus Has Fallen stars Gerard Butler as a former secret service agent who becomes trapped in the White House after terrorists take over and hold the President (Aaron Eckhart) captive. Judging from the trailer it looks eerily similar to Die Hard, though I’m sure it won’t even come close on any level. It also stars Morgan Freeman, Dylan McDermott, and Ashley Judd, and it’s set to hit theaters March 22nd. Hit the jump for the trailer and synopsis.

When the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.
