Guillermo del Toro Confirms Plans for ‘Pacific Rim’ Sequel

With Guillermo del Toro‘s insanely epic looking Pacific Rim set to hit theaters July 12th, there’s a fair bit of anticipation that it will be a big as the creatures featured in the film itself.  With that in mind, director del Toro is making plans for a sequel in addition to a video game and an expansion of the graphic novel.

He stated: “We’ve been talking about the idea for it and working on a pitch.  Having had two to three years pass from the first Pacific Rim to the second movie, we can also prepare a good video game, continue the graphic novel and continue the mythology.”

That being said, Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull cautioned people not to get their hopes up just yet by saying, “We’d like to do it but it’s up to the audience — ultimately we’ll have to see how it does.”

Here’s hoping that the final product will be as good as the trailers make it out to be.  I like the idea of a new film franchise that isn’t based on young adult novels or superhero comics.
