Kate Winslet Joins ‘Divergent’ Tweens Everywhere Rejoice

Summit Entertainment confirmed today that Kate Winslet has been added to the upcoming young adult novel adaptation Divergent.  Like The Hunger Games and many other best-selling novels of the same ilk, Divergent is a science fiction story set is a dystopian future where people are divided into five factions, each based on a different virtue.

The film is also set to star Shailene Woodley, Theo James Jai Courtney, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort and Maggie QAaron Eckhart is also rumored to be attached, however this hasn’t been confirmed yet. Hit the jump for more info and the full synopsis.

Summit is a division of Lionsgate, who also owns the rights to the Twilight films as well as The Hunger Games series, so basically they are owning the young adult market.

Also, Divergent has a release date set for March 21st, 2014, which has become a fairly coveted slot since the first Hunger Games film did so well last year on the same weekend.

Set in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into five factions that each represent a different virtue, sixteen-year-olds have to decide if they want to stay in their faction or switch to another – for the rest of their lives. Beatrice Prior makes a choice that surprises everyone. Then Tris and her fellow faction-members have to live through a highly competitive initiation process to live out the choice they have made. They must undergo extreme physical and intense psychological tests, that transform them all. But Tris has a secret she’s kept hidden, because if anyone knew, it would mean a certain death. As she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, this secret might help her save the people she loves… or it might destroy her.
