New JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Trailer: More Ridiculous than the Last One

In this new Jem and the Holograms trailer released earlier today, we see the introduction of Synergy, her robot companion that in the show was a sassy artificially intelligent computer (if memory serves). I don’t know why they couldn’t have just made this live-action adaptation take place in the ’80s and keep all the goofiness of the cartoon. Even as someone who didn’t like the show growing up I might have checked it out for pure nostalgia, but what they did here looks more like a Disney Channel movie than anything else.

The film is directed by Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and stars Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko, Aurora Perrineau, Molly Ringwald, Ryan Guzman, and Juliette Lewis.
