Today, Film District has announced an October 11th 2013 release date for Spike Lee‘s remake of the South Korean masterpiece Oldboy.  The original was directed by Park Chan-wook, and centers around a man who is inexplicably imprisoned for 20 years, and his quest to find out who did it, and why.  The remake stars Josh Brolin in the lead, as well as Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Samuel L. Jackson, and James Ransone.

With a well-rounded cast and an interesting choice of director, I’m very anxious to see how Lee spins this film into his own creation.  Being one of my all-time favorite films, I still have reservations, and for those of you that haven’t seen the original, I implore you to stop reading this and go watch it.
