Sundance 2018: Magnolia Picks Up THE GUILTY 1

Magnolia has announced they picked up the North American rights to the Danish thriller The Guilty, after having its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The film, directed by Gustav Möller, takes place in an emergency call center, with an officer frantically trying to help a young woman who has been kidnapped.

Park City, UT (January 22, 2018) – Magnolia Pictures announced today that they have taken North American rights to Gustav Möller’s critically acclaimed Danish film THE GUILTY which has emerged as one of most discussed films of this year’s festival. The film is screening in the World Dramatic Competition. The thriller has electrified audiences with it’s masterful direction and suspenseful imagination.
 
THE GUILTY was produced by Lina Flint. The film is a Nordisk Film Spring & New Danish Screen presentation. Möller and Emil Nygaard Albertsen wrote the screenplay.  It stars Jacob Cedergren, Jessica Dinnage, Johan Olsen, Omar Shargawi and Katinka Evers-Jahnsen.
 
The deal was negotiated by John Von Thaden, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions at Magnolia Pictures and Susan Wendt, Director of International Sales & Marketing at TrustNordisk on behalf of the filmmakers.
 
Eamonn Bowles, President of Magnolia Pictures said, “Gustav Möller has devised an ingeniously executed thriller with THE GUILTY. This is an incredibly accomplished feature debut, and Magnolia is excited to introduce him to American audiences.”

Alarm dispatcher and former police officer, Asger Holm, answers an emergency call from a kidnapped woman. When the call is suddenly disconnected, the search for the woman and her kidnapper begins. With the phone as his only tool, Asger enters a race against time to save the endangered woman. But soon he realizes that he is dealing with a crime that is far bigger than he first thought.
