Following the success of last year’s crazy horror anthology The ABCs of Death, it was announced today that plans for the sequel have begun, with a release date set for 2014.  The format of 26 short films by 26 directors will remain, though the full list of directors is still being compiled.  The original got some big name talent including Ti West, Adam Wingard, Ben Wheatley, and Nacho Vigalando, however critics, including myself, didn’t necessarily think the concept worked through and through.

Several names have already been announced for the sequel, read on for more.

Alex de la Iglesia (The Last Circus), Rodney Ascher (Room 237) and animator Bill Plympton are on board so far, and hopefully more traditionally non-horror folks will join in the gory fun.

Drafthouse Films, Timpson Films, and Magnet are set to return as producing companies for the film and it’s currently looking for financing at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

As with last year’s version, the new iteration will hold a contest for one letter and allow amateur filmmakers the opportunity to submit their own shorts for consideration, however the letter of choice has not yet been revealed (the previous winner was T is for Toilet).

We’ll be sure to keep you posted on the latest, but for now check out our review of the original and let us know who you’d like to see direct a short in the comments below.
