Funny or Die released a new red band trailer for Jordan Vogt-Roberts‘ upcoming comedy The Kings of Summer, which is hitting select cities May 31st. We’ve been gushing about this movie since we caught it at the Sarasota Film Festival last month and it currently stands as one of my top films of the year.

The film is a coming of age story in the same vein as Stand By Me and revolves around a group of friends that run away from home to build a house in the woods. I can’t highly recommend this movie enough and be sure to check out our recent interview with director Vogt-Roberts here and our review of the film here.  Hit the jump for the trailer and synopsis.

Premiering to rave reviews at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, THE KINGS OF SUMMER is a unique coming-of-age comedy about three teenage friends – Joe (Nick Robinson), Patrick (Gabriel Basso) and the eccentric and unpredictable Biaggio (Moises Arias) – who, in the ultimate act of independence, decide to spend their summer building a house in the woods and living off the land. Free from their parents’ rules, their idyllic summer quickly becomes a test of friendship as each boy learns to appreciate the fact that family – whether it is the one you’re born into or the one you create – is something you can’t run away from.
