‘Wet Hot American Summer’ Sequel is “Absolutely Happening”

2001’s Wet Hot American Summer is undoubtedly one of my all-time favorite comedies, and if you listened to yesterday’s daily podcast I even used it as the intro quote. Well, /Film reported today that, according to star Michael Showalter, the sequel is “Absolutely happening.” In a recent interview on Watch What Happens Live Showalter had this to say in response to a question about the sequel:

Absolutely yes. One hundred percent yes. The whole gang. Everyone’s back. We’re doing it.

Director David Wain has been toying with the idea of a sequel, or possibly a prequel to the film for some years now and it finally looks like it’s a go.  What still needs to be determined is if the bevy of stars in the first film will reprise their roles.  Most of the cast has since moved on to leading actor status and include the likes of Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni, Molly Shannon, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks and Bradley Cooper.

If you remember, there is a scene in the film, where the gang talks about meeting back there in 10 years, so I think that could make an interesting story, however David Wain has stated that he would like to make a prequel, that takes place during the same summer as the first.  Either way, I’m very excited for this to happen.
