XLrator Media announced today that it has acquired the distribution rights for Christopher MacBride‘s The Conspiracy, which originally premiered at Fantastic Fest last year.  The film aims to blur the lines between fact and fiction, and looks at two documentary filmmakers who are profiling a famous conspiracy theorist, only to have him disappear.

The reaction out of Fantastic Fest was incredibly positive, and now wider audiences will be able to check this one out when it hits theaters late this summer.  Hit the break for the full release regarding the acquisition and click here to check out the trailer.

LOS ANGELES (June 11, 2013) – XLrator Media has acquired all U.S. distribution rights to the political thriller THE CONSPIRACY, written and directed by Christopher MacBride and produced by Lee Kim. XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon announced the deal today.

“Christopher’s riveting film explores the fascinating world of the Illuminati, conspiracy theorists and secret societies. THE CONSPIRACY is a cinematic thrill-ride that challenges our notion of what is ‘truth,’ and reveals those shadowy forces that will do anything to control it,” said Gordon.

When two young filmmakers (played by Aaron Poole and Jim Gilbert) select a crazed conspiracy theorist as the subject of their new movie, they have no idea the terrifying peril they will put themselves in. When the man disappears without a trace, the filmmakers begin an obsessive quest to uncover the truth that will lead them to an ancient and dangerous secret society. A meticulously researched thriller based on real conspiracy theories, THE CONSPIRACY blurs the line between fact and fiction, news and propaganda.

The film was inspired by actual conspiracy theories, notably those surrounding the Bohemian Club and the Bilderberg Group, both secretive organizations closed to the public and made up of a who’s who of power players in international politics and business.

Canadian writer-director MacBride’s thriller pitch “Echo” was bought earlier this year by 20th Century Fox with Shawn Levy to produce through his Fox-based 21 Laps banner.

THE CONSPIRACY premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin. The deal was negotiated by Gordon and Michel Urich of XLrator Media with Nate Bolotin and Aram Tertzakian of XYZ Films on behalf of the filmmakers.
