Since the ridiculously successful Veronica Mars Kickstarter campaign, most of us knew that it would cause a number of higher profile projects to pop up on everyone’s favorite crowd-funding site. Now, Zach Braff has hopped on the bandwagon in order to fund his follow-up to 2004’s Garden State, titled Wish I Was Here.

Though it’s not the sequel everyone hoped for, Braff states that it does carry the same tone.  In the campaign video he says that although there are financial backers available, they could alter the story and characters to something that he doesn’t want, so he’s attempting to create it himself with our money.  Being a huge fan of Garden State, I’m intrigued to see how this project turns out and I’m sure that he’ll easily be able to snag the $2 million he’s looking for.  Hit the jump for the campaign video and synopsis for the movie.

“Wish I Was Here” is the story of Aidan Bloom (played by Braff), a struggling actor, father and husband, who at 35 is still trying to find his identity; a purpose for his life. He and his wife are barely getting by financially and Aidan passes his time by fantasizing about being the great futuristic Space-Knight he’d always dreamed he’d be as a little kid.

When his ailing father can no longer afford to pay for private school for his two kids (ages 5 and 12) and the only available public school is on its last legs, Aidan reluctantly agrees to attempt to home-school them.

The result is some funny chaos, until Aidan decides to scrap the traditional academic curriculum and come up with his own. Through teaching them about life his way, Aidan gradually discovers some of the parts of himself he couldn’t find.
