The Directors Guild of America has announced the nominees for the 69th DGA Awards. All five nominees in the Feature Film category are first-time contenders. The big surprise is Nate Parker being nominated in the first-time director category for The Birth of a Nation. For whatever reason, either personal or likely because the film isn’t that great, neither Parker nor the film had been recognized by other voting bodies. The full list of film nominees is below.

The DGA Awards ceremony will be held on February 4th in Los Angeles.
