Can Assassin’s Creed break the streak of underwhelming video-game-to-silver-screen adaptations? A great cast – including Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Charlotte Rampling, Michael K. Willaims, and Khalid Abdalla – offers hope.
The marketing of the film, however, has yet to show if these talented actors are being utilized to elevate the material, and a new clip involving a carriage chase and fight is fairly generic. There are knife swings, sweeping overhead shots of a speeding carriage, choppy editing, and an all-purpose action score.
Hopefully, director Justin Kurzel and the filmmakers have more up their sleeves. We’ll find out when Assassin’s Creed is released on December 21st.
