The first trailer has arrived for Jawbone, a drama about a former boxing champ who returns to his old boxing club after hitting rock bottom. Doesn’t sound like a big departure from the boxing movie tropes we know and (sometimes) love, but it looks like a grounded take.
The film stars Johnny Harris (who also wrote the script), Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, and Michael Smiley. Directed by Thomas Q. Napper, Jawbone hits theaters in the U.K. on March 17th. There is currently no U.S. distribution.
A former youth boxing champion, Jimmy McCabe (Johnny Harris), is a man desperately in search of hope, but looking in all the wrong places. When he hits rock bottom he turns to his childhood boxing club and the only family he has left: gym owner Bill (Ray Winstone) cornerman Eddie (Michael Smiley) and promoter Joe (Ian McShane). In a battle between fear and faith, Jimmy risks his life, as he tries to stand tall and regain his place in the world.
