SXSW 2015: DEATHGASM Trailer

One of the crazier looking films to screen during the midnighters programming at this year’s SXSW is Jason Lei Howden‘s Deathgasm, which looks to contain just the right amount of comedy and over the top gore. The film revolves around two friends who

Suburban Gothic is the sophomore feature for writer-director Richard Bates Jr., and although the tone is decidedly different than his first film, Excision, the unique visual style is much the same. Favoring comedic antics and funny dialogue over gore, this is a lighter horror film, but still manages to be a fun and entertaining ride and yet another solid entry into Bates’ filmography.

Sundance 2015: TURBO KID Trailer

At least a few times a year a movie will come around that appears to be created just for me, and this year I think one of them is Anouk Whissell, François Simard and Yoann-Karl Whissell‘s Turbo Kid. Back when the first ABCs

Slamdance 2015: RATTER Review

The advancement of technology has made the world a smaller place than ever, bringing people from all over the globe together in a thriving community where information can be retrieved with the swipe of a finger. The ability to see and interact with friends and loved ones can be achieved almost instantaneously through our cell phones and web cams. With this rapid integration of technology into our personal lives comes the fear that some of this private information is also seen by others.

Slamdance 2015: CLINGER Review

Falling in love for the first time can be a beautiful, exciting, and scary thing. To suddenly care so much for another person that you can’t bear the thought of being apart is an overwhelming emotion. While expressing your love and devotion to your significant other is a good thing, sometimes partners can feel smothered, especially when in a new relationship. Michael Steves’ horror-comedy Clinger explores the most extreme version of this concept and achieves varying degrees of success.

So 2015 is here, and, although we may be entering a new year, some of the more tired trends from 2014 are still lingering around, like that kid on the playground who was still playing with Pogs way after everyone else.

The specific trends I’m talking about today are found-footage and possession films, both of which The Atticus Institute is guilty. Although this mockumentary is technically proficient, capturing the look and feel of an actual doc, the overall experience is fairly drab and forgettable with the exception a few entertaining moments.

Slamdance 2015: BLOODSUCKING BASTARDS Trailer

The first trailer has been released for the horror-comedy Bloodsucking Bastards, which will be premiering on opening night of this year’s Slamdance Film Festival in Park City. The film revolves around an office slowly being overrun by vampires, and stars Franz Kranz, Pedro

[REC] 4: Apocalypse is supposedly the final entry in the popular Spanish zombie series originally created by writer-director team Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza. For the final two films in this quadrilogy, the duo decided to direct one each, on his own, with Plaza tackling [REC] 3: Genesis, and Balagueró finishing off the series. Considering the original film was released in 2007 and contained two horror mechanics that have well worn out their welcome – zombies and found footage, some might wonder if the fourth and final chapter could live up to the rest. For the most part, yes it can.

Adam’s Top 10 Horror Movies of 2014

Before setting out to compile this list, I was thinking that 2014 was something of a weak year in the way of horror films. We’re still being inundated with found footage and haunted house stories, and there weren’t many notable traditional horror
