BODY Review

What would you do if you accidentally killed someone while hanging out in a house that you weren’t exactly supposed to be in? Most rational people would immediately call the police and tell the truth. But if you’re one of the three friends in Dan Berk and Robert Olsen’s Body, however, you’re going to do pretty much anything but that.

TheGallows 3

The Gallows is comprised of a trifecta of horror movie lameness. The film’s found footage conceit uses standard tricks to deliver the requisite jump scares, it includes a supernatural element in order to conveniently break the rules of the physical world when needed, and weak third act twists pose as meaningful when they’re really meager. It all adds up to a whole lot of nothing.

STUNG Review

I’ve always been a sucker for the creature feature; describe a movie as “giant killer (insert literally any noun in here),” and I’ll probably be excited to check it out – the campier the better. Such is the case with director Benni Diez’s feature debut, Stung, which involves giant killer wasps. It’s, gross, violent, silly and sometimes just plain stupid but in the best kind of way. Top it off with two completely ridiculously fun performances from Clifton Collins Jr. and Lance Henriksen, and you have yourself a bloody good time.

When you hit the proverbial wall, it seems like the next logical step would be to go backward. In the case of the hit supernatural franchise Insidious, it seemed like there was nowhere else to go after two films covered the events of the Lambert haunting.

In fact, the route filmmakers eluded to at the end of the second film just felt tacked on and pointless, such that the franchise would have become a parody, no matter how scary and creepy they tried to make the third installment. So having hit the logical end of the Lambert story, the filmmakers decided to go back to the beginning in this less-than-inspiring prequel to the Insidious saga.

Horror-Comedy STUNG Gets a New Trailer

One of the more fun films I saw at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival was Benni Diez‘s horror-comedy Stung, in which a garden party gets attacked by giant killer wasps. The film stars Matt O’Leary, Jessica Cook, Clifton Collins Jr., and Lance Henriksen. As

POLTERGEIST (2015) Review

The restless souls of 2015’s version of Poltergeist have upgraded their method of communication to HDTV, but the film as a whole does little to repackage or freshen-up the 1982 original. This update is a half-hearted and half-baked retread that coasts on straight mimicry rather than tweaking the now well-worn formula for supernatural intrusions into suburbia.

Found Footage Horror Film THE GALLOWS Gets a New Trailer

A new trailer for the upcoming Blumhouse-produced horror film The Gallows has been released, and although it looks to follow the same found footage formula as countless others, this one appears to at least provide a decent amount of scares. The film revolves

In 2009, a little horror film – The Human Centipede (First Sequence) – broke onto the scene and became a notorious sensation. In the film, a mad scientist creates the first “medically accurate” human centipede, where three individuals’ digestive systems are fused together into one gruesome tract.
