Red Christmas isn’t afraid to raise complex moral questions and doesn’t back down from their stickiness, but ultimately there’s a lack of pushing the debate fully into tastelessness or a profound purgation.
With its likable cast and exuberant tone, even if sometimes excessively jaunty, Spider-Man: Homecoming is an enjoyable superhero romp. This is a universe worth revisiting and exploring, and hopefully the MCU doesn’t ruin the fun.
The DC Extended Universe finally has a coherent, entertaining, and genuine superhero story. The sincerity of Wonder Woman comes, in part, from its period setting and positioning outside of a meticulously structured, episodic timeline. Mostly, though, director Patty Jenkins’ origin story succeeds by creating a convincing heroine who’s actually selfless and a true source of inspiration.
