AFTER LOUIE Review

From After Louie's conceptual standpoint there exists the foundation for a highly intriguing character study about this human artifact from the AIDS crisis coming to terms with the his generational succession by his community.

READY PLAYER ONE Review

There are aspects of the film that were clearly put in to entertain the average moviegoing audience and perhaps also to raise the stakes though not necessarily at the expense of the original story, so all in all, it’s a great theater-going experience that I would highly recommend.

KING OF JAZZ Criterion Blu-ray Review

Because this film is already so scantily seen, this Blu-ray release operates as its own historical object that contains enough content for you to understand why this film, of all the old Hollywood revues, got the Criterion treatment.

ISLE OF DOGS Review

Isle of Dogs has all the usual trappings of a Wes Anderson film. It has a bit of a wit, some dark undertones and a bleak, but nevertheless, happy ending.

CHILDREN OF THE CORN: RUNAWAY Blu-ray Review

The tenth, yes tenth, entry into the Children of the Corn series, Children of the Corn: Runaway, is now out on Blu-ray, and while I’ll immediately begin by saying that this is every bit as hokey and poorly crafted as what you might expect, it isn’t nearly as abysmal as the last entry in the series, Children of the Corn: Genesis.

I KILL GIANTS Review

As a fan of the source's unsuspecting depth, this isn't nearly enough for me, but as an introduction to this story, it is more than suitable.

UNSANE Review

I wish Unsane was on the level of Magic Mike, Behind the Candelabra, or Contagion, but unfortunately it falters like Haywire and Side Effects, leaving you with a bad taste in your mouth as you leave the theater.

ALLURE Review

It’s hard to discern what Allure wants to say. Once it introduces its idea of abuse as a vicious cycle, it can only re-manifest that notion in different ways because it lacks the conceptual discipline to craft interlocking story arcs.

RAMEN HEADS Review

Ramen Heads comes apart, not because of its failings as much as its unintentional reiteration that it could have worked better as a short film.

FLOWER Review

With all-star performances from Zoey Deutch and Joey Morgan and a touching, funny, slightly disturbing (in a good way) script, Flower is one of the best indie comedies I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this year and one that should not be missed.

DEMON HOUSE Review

Bagans' handling of this information turns what could be an interesting exploration of a strange phenomenon into a three-ring circus.

PRODIGY Review

Largely set in a single location, the sci-fi thriller by Alex Haughey and Brian Vidal, Prodigy, proves to be an entertaining, albeit flawed, affair about a broken man interviewing a prodigious child with demons of her own.
